Crooner Engelbert Humperdinck wants end his long feud with Sir Tom Jones but doubts the Sex Bomb singer will bury the hatchet.
The music legends once shared the same manager but fell out decades ago.
Engelbert , 82, said: “It would be my pleasure to say, ‘welcome back into our friendship’ but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
The cause of the fall-out has never been known, but in 2015 Sir Tom’s alleged former mistress Charlotte Laws claimed Engelbert flirted with her in 1979.
She added: “I am sure there was good old-fashioned jealousy there. They competed against each other for everything.”
Asked if Sir Tom might have been jealous of him, he said: “I don’t know. It doesn’t matter whether I’m a bigger record seller but it may have mattered to him.”
The pair were known for their womanising but Catholic Engelbert, who is releasing a new Christmas album, says he now regrets it because it hurt his wife Patricia, who has Alzheimer’s.
He revealed that he recently lost two stone by training in the gym and drinking healthy shakes.
Engelbert said: “I try to keep myself young as possible. I vow to never let my hair go grey.”
