Written on a Rainy Night in Miami In 1977, inside Criteria Studios in Miami, Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb were searching for something different. After their disco dominance, they longed to write something softer, more intimate—a love song that spoke to the heart instead of the dance floor. One rainy night, Barry began strumming gentle chords that would become “How Deep Is Your Love.”
A Perfect Blend of Emotion and Precision
Primarily written by Barry Gibb, with melodic and harmonic contributions from Robin and Maurice, the song aimed to be “timeless and honest.” Engineer Karl Richardson used multi-track layering to blend their three voices into one seamless harmony—creating the iconic “Bee Gees sound” we know today.

From a Risky Choice to an Eternal Classic
At first, the record label was hesitant—the song seemed “too soft” for the disco era. But producer Robert Stigwood believed in it and placed it in the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever. The rest is history. “How Deep Is Your Love” reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, spent 17 consecutive weeks on the chart, and earned the 1978 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance.
A Song That Outlasted Time
Unlike most hits of its era, this one never faded. Its tender melody still echoes at weddings, anniversaries, and quiet nights of reflection. Barry Gibb once said: “We wrote it as a whisper for those who’ve truly loved.”
A Love Song Without Age
Nearly five decades later, the song remains as touching as ever—covered by countless artists, yet never losing its soul. “How Deep Is Your Love” reminds us that true songs of love are not written for a decade—they’re written for eternity.
I know your eyes in the morning sun I feel you touch me in the pouring rain And the moment that you wander far from me I want to feel you in my arms again And you come to me on a summer breeze Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love, how deep is your love How deep is your love? I really mean to learn ‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools Breaking us down when they all should let us be We belong to you and me
I believe in you You know the door to my very soul You’re the light in my deepest, darkest hour You’re my savior when I fall And you may not think I care for you When you know down inside that I really do And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love, how deep is your love How deep is your love? I really mean to learn ‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools Breaking us down when they all should let us be We belong to you and me
And you come to me on a summer breeze Keep me warm in your love, then you softly leave And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love, how deep is your love How deep is your love? I really mean to learn ‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools Breaking us down when they all should let us be We belong to you and me
How deep is your love, how deep is your love I really mean to learn ‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools Breaking us down when they all should let us be We belong to you and me
